TUTOR for Governments

TUTOR for Governments

Why governments are using TUTOR

Pupils of all ages have faced significant disruption to their education since 2020, and we don’t believe 15 hours of extra maths teaching is enough to catch them up. What’s more, there aren’t enough qualified, experienced maths teachers and tutors to offer high-quality, small group teaching to every single child, nor the funding to do so for more than a tiny fraction of the total cohort — and it’s often those most in need of help who miss out. TUTOR offers a credible, affordable alternative to bespoke 1-1 private tuition, and means that governments are able to offer a gold-standard maths education to all families in their constituency or region.

What is an Intelligent
Tutoring System?

Intelligent Tutoring Systems are known to be the most impactful form of supplementary education. It may feel slightly counterintuitive, but ITSs have been repeatedly shown to be even more effective than one-to-one human tutoring. An Intelligent tutoring system (ITS) is a computer system that provides immediate and customised instruction or feedback to pupils, enabling learning in a meaningful and highly effective manner. “As the Mathematics Adviser for Jersey, I am really excited about the collaboration between Government of Jersey schools and Complete Mathematics. I see TUTOR playing an important part in the range of provision on offer that can improve outcomes for pupils on the island.

My vision is that no one is held back from their goals due to a lack of mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding, and I believe Complete Maths TUTOR can significantly help this be the reality. It is an opportunity for pupils to have access to high quality mathematics support at home as well as in school.

I love that it can give families a chance to learn together by watching a video or discussing a problem. Seeing their confidence growing in talking mathematically is a joy.”

How do governments use TUTOR?

How do governments use TUTOR?

Offering access to TUTOR for all pupils in all schools is a powerful way for governments to show they are invested in their communities, and actively supporting schools’ recovery in the aftermath of years of disrupted education.

We know funding is tight, and we don’t want governments and councils to have to choose between pupils in their constituency — that’s why we’re able to work with such groups to negotiate a price model that allows them to offer TUTOR to all pupils for sustainable, long-term impact.

"We know that COVID-19 is having an ongoing impact on students' learning, and we have already launched a range of additional support for students and staff, including small-group tutoring and additional training."

"TUTOR will be a valuable addition to our toolkit. It will allow individual students to take part in tailored, self-directed learning to support the areas where they need to develop. It will also enable teaching staff to remain focused on whole-class and small-group teaching."

How can I introduce TUTOR across my schools?

How can I introduce TUTOR across my schools?

  • TUTOR rollouts across groups of schools often begin with a launch event, either online or in person. In 2022, four of our team flew to the island of Jersey to visit schools in-person and formally launch TUTOR to an audience of maths leads and education leaders representing every phase.
  • At the start of their subscription, all schools signing up to TUTOR are offered a 45-minute meeting with one of our Education team, all of whom are experienced former teachers. In this meeting, we’ll discuss each schools’ individual needs and context, and agree a plan for successful implementation. The team will often meet with school leaders at multiple points throughout the year to check in on progress.
  • All schools are able to access as much free platform training as they wish — some schools opt to do this at the beginning of their subscription for all teachers, while others spread sessions out and engage key stakeholders first.
  • Throughout a schools’ subscription, we’ll keep them up to date with new features, events, and advice on getting the most from the platform, as well as feedback for teachers on student misconceptions from our maths team.
  • Maths leads working across multiple schools can access detailed analytics showing pupils’ progress on TUTOR and tracking its impact for targeted groups.
