National Mathematics Lead (England)

Complete Mathematics is a professional learning network, with schools involved in all regions of the UK and an additional 16,000 teachers in schools overseas. Using the Complete Mathematics platform to drive teaching, learning and assessment in schools, teachers are able to take part in the largest ever collaboration project in mathematics education.

Beyond the online aspect of the project, the network also meets face-to-face through our extensive programme of CPD courses, at regional network meetings three times per year and at our national MathsConf events each term.

We are looking to appoint a Mathematics Lead who will drive all of our mathematics education work in England. The postholder will liaise closely with our Mathematics Lead for Scotland, Chris McGrane, to ensure a joined up approach to addressing teachers' needs. The Mathematics Lead will manage the England-based education team, including Jonathan Hall (Regional Lead for North of England), Rob Smith (Mathematics Community Lead), and our mathematics associates who deliver programmes such as our Subject Knowledge Enhancement course.

The Mathematics Lead for England is a senior post in La Salle. The postholder will work closely with our CEO, Mark McCourt, and across the organisation, ensuring that teachers in England receive the best possible service from their Complete Mathematics membership.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and deliver programmes of professional development of the highest quality
  • Ensure that all schools in England are aware of the network and able to get involved
  • Grow the network through awareness raising, partnerships and brokering
  • Work with teachers in the classroom to help them get the most from the platform and network
  • Create effective resources for teaching mathematical concepts
  • Maintain a continual dialogue with network members so that they engage with long-term lesson study / action enquiry
  • Contribute to national events

Experience and Skills (Essential):

  • Expert understanding of mathematics education and effective practices in teaching mathematics
  • Proven track record of developing mathematics teachers through CPD, conferences, etc
  • Significant management experience
  • Qualified teacher status
  • Recent classroom experience
  • Degree in mathematics (or very closely related subject)
  • Track record of effective teaching
  • Ability to coach and support colleagues in a variety of settings
  • Outstanding IT skills

Experience and Skills (Desirable):

  • Minimum of 10 years experience
  • Nationally recognised for work in mathematics education
  • Experience of working across wide range of organisations
